As part of the strong commitment this administration and I have to support gender equality and women’s empowerment throughout the world, I am pleased to accept Denmark’s invitation to join “The Millennium Development Goal 3 Global Call to Action.” Launched by the Government of Denmark to support the third Millennium Development Goal on “Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment,” this campaign embodies the values long held by the United States, those of equality and access to opportunity for women in every country. I congratulate Denmark for this initiative.

Today, I joined the Secretary General of the United Nations, the President of the World Bank and other leaders in the public and private sectors in becoming a “Torch Bearer” in this effort. I look forward to working with them and with the government of Denmark to do all we can to expand equality and opportunity for women and girls.
