Dear Jose:

Today’s ground-breaking for the USA Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo is an historic occasion. I am glad that Secretary Locke is there with you to represent the United States. I would like to thank all the Americans, including many in the business community, who have done so much to support this project.

The USA Pavilion will showcase the best of American business, culture, and values in one of China’s most dynamic cities, and highlight our national commitment to innovation, diversity, and a clean energy future. I would also like to thank our hosts. The Shanghai Expo represents all that the nations of the world can accomplish when they work together, the global challenges they can meet through collective action, and the progress they can achieve through international cooperation.

The United States is proud to participate, and President Obama and I are committed to doing everything we can to support your work. The Haibao doll that sits in my office is looking forward to reports on your progress – as are the rest of us back in Washington. And with your help, I know the USA Pavilion will be a great success. So let’s get to work!

Sincerely yours,

Hillary Rodham Clinton
