On behalf of President Obama and the American people, it is with great pleasure that I wish the people of Singapore a joyous National Day this August 9.

In commemoration of our shared vision for peace and prosperity, I had the honor of welcoming Prime Minister Lee during his official visit to the United States last week. His visit reaffirmed our partnership on a wide range of economic and security issues. As participating nations in the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the Counter-ISIL coalition, and the Paris Climate agreement, we are close partners in addressing international challenges and working towards solutions that will have a lasting impact on generations to come. The United States proudly regards Singapore as one of our closest friends.

As you celebrate this National Day, I offer my warmest congratulations and wish you continued peace, prosperity, and happiness.
