14 FAM 131 OVERVIEW

(CT:LOG-256; 02-25-2019)

a. Common reasons to travel may include: permanent change of station (PCS); temporary duty (TDY); rest and recuperation (R&R); home leave; evacuation (emergency or medical); medical treatment; training; and workshops. See 3 FAM and 14 FAM 500 for further details. The U.S. Government has established contracts with certain airlines to make prices for commonly used routes cheaper and more predictable (city pairs). Travel and all travel-related expenses must be fully authorized before travel begins or any related expenses are incurred.

b. Useful guidance on planning a move can be found on the A/LM Office of Logistics Management website. The Plan My Move (PMM) module of Transportation Lite and the "It's Your Move" publication are valuable applications for planning a move.

c. The Transportation and Travel Management Division in the Office of Logistics Management (A/LM/OPS/TTM) oversees the Department's Travel Management Center and transportation and storage for personal effects. The A/LM intranet website contains up-to-date information regarding travel and shipping.
