    • Today, the Africa Regional Certification Commission certified the WHO African Region as wild polio-free after four years without a case. With this historic milestone, five of the six WHO regions – representing over 90% of the world’s population – are now free of the wild poliovirus, moving the world closer to achieving global polio eradication.

    • Countries implementing control programmes to treat people infected with or at risk of epilepsy-associated tapeworm infection can now benefit from medicines donated to WHO. Under a five-year agreement, the German pharmaceutical company, Bayer, has agreed to donate 2.8 million tablets of niclosamide and 1.5 million tablets of praziquantel to WHO for distribution to affected countries.
