This section provides lists of geographical locations to
identify foreign countries and cities within the countries. The countries are
listed in alphabetical sequence by Geographic Area (WHABureau of Western
Hemisphere Affairs; EURBureau of European and Eurasian Affairs; EAPBureau of East Asian and
Pacific Affairs; NEABureau of Near Eastern Affairs; AFBureau of African
Affairs; and SCABureau of South and Central
Asian Affairs) in 4 FAH-1 H-820,
with the two character alpha codes. The cities within the country are listed
alphabetically under the country name with the appropriate city numerical
codes. These lists relate to and supplement 4 FAH-1 H-431
and 4 FAH-1
H-435.
Table 2 of FIPS PUB 10-3, dated February 9, 1984 as
updated, is reprinted in 4 FAH-1 H-830.
It provides a list of alpha codes and countries sequenced by code.
The two character country alpha codes are derived from the
National Bureau of Standards Publication, FIPS PUB l0, as indicated above and
in accordance with Public Law 89-306 (79
Stat. 1127), as implemented by Executive Order 11717 (38 FR 12315, dated May
11, 1973). The numeric city codes are provided by the General Service
Administration, as published in WORLDWIDE GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION CODES.
4 FAH-1 H-812 APPLICABILITY

The standard two character country alpha codes are
prescribed for the interchange of formatted machine sensible coded data between
and among agencies and between agencies and the public. Specifically, these
codes are required in the Department of States Real Property and Personnel
records and GSA Real Property Owned and Leased Inventory reporting.
The country code is shown in parenthesis
following the country name. For example: Argentina (AR). The four
digit numeric city codes are required in Personnel Reporting to the Office of
Personnel Management (OPM) and in the GSA Real Property Owned and Leased
Inventory reporting.
