13 FAH-1 H-141 Training connected to an
onward assignment/Career development

(Applies to Foreign Service Employees only)
Training (e.g., language, tradecraft) that is connected to
an onward assignment is normally scheduled by the Office of Career Development
and Assignments (HR/CDA) and will be referenced in an employees travel
orders. If there is any specific additional training course an individual
employee is interested in having included in his or her pre-assignment
training, he or she should discuss it with his or her career development officer
in HR/CDA. Employees should not apply on their own for training connected to
an onward assignment.
13 FAH-1 H-142 TRAINING NOT CONNECTED
TO AN ONWARD ASSIGNMENT

(Applies to Foreign Service Civil Service and Foreign Service National
Employees)
a. For training that is not related to an onward
assignment, employees should submit an application (hard copy or electronic
version, if available) through their supervisor and training officer to the FSI
Office of the Registrar (FSI/EX/REG).
b. FSI uses the following forms for training
applications:
Via online enrollment (electronic
version of Form DS-755) through the FSI
OpenNet Web site (for FSI courses)
Online FSI External Training
Request (Form SF-182, Authorization, Agreement and Certification of Training
equivalent) (for external, non-FSI courses)
c. For certain training events, additional
supplemental application material may be required, as explained in individual
course announcements issued by cable, Department Notice, or course listing on
FSIs OpenNet Web site.
